Have you ever craved anything in your food life that you drive over an hour just to savor it? I have; and yes it’s the Paderia Bakehouse, located in Fountain Valley, California. When I first found out about Paderia it was by recommendation from friends and social media, I scrolled and drooled over just looking at the photos. While I was around the area I finally gave in and gave it a try.
I went alone, ate alone, and tried most of their Menu. Don’t worry I took some home with me for my family to try. Let me start with the Portuguese egg tart; this is one of the greatest pastries to eat at Paderia, it has a crisp, flaky crust that is holding up the creamy custard center, texture so soft that you can just pop the whole pastry in your mouth!
This bakehouse has cookies that are the size of your hand! They are huge, and come in four different flavors. Chocolate Walnut cookie, Peanut Butter cookie, Chocolate Triple Chocolate Chip, and Blueberry Coconut Pecan. You can never go wrong on picking one of any of the cookies, it goes well with their signature drinks such as specialty coffees, infusion teas, and horchata drinks to wash down the various desserts they offer.
One of my favorite pastries I’ve had has to be the Malasada, this is a Portuguese Doughnut. It is so thick and packed filled with custard, I tried the Vanilla Bean Malasada and it is not too sweet and just to my liking. Its simple and enjoyable in every bite.
This place is a very cute and small bakery house, but it’s packed with different pastries and drinks to try. If you are around the area, stop by and try one or as many as you can while you’re there.
