Abra Kadabra and Bibitty Bobbity Boo!
I have lived in Los Angeles for quite some time now since I was a child and this is one secret that most people don’t know. Hollywood guards a fantastic hidden gem in it’s hills and it’s known as “The Academy of Magical Arts”. Most people refer to it as just the Magic Castle but that tends to cause some confusion with Disneyland. There definitely is a big difference between the two castles.
The Hollywood Magic Castle is a clubhouse that requires special permission from a magician to be able to get in. You can’t just walk up and get reservations or tickets. You can’t buy tickets online either, you really do need an invite. The castle also cannot be viewed from the city street as it is gated and requires someone to drive you up the winding road way to it. That’s just the beginning that makes this place such a treat.
If you happen to be someone that is invited in as I have, you get your picture taken at the front red carpet style entrance, dinner and a seat into one of the many magical acts and shows they have going on that night. The Magic Castle was founded by performing magicians so the acts are constantly changing like that of a comedy club. Neil Patrick Harris is a frequent visitor and you may be lucky to catch him performing a show.
Upon entering you are given a secret password that changes every night, saying this password aloud will have a book case side open to reveal a fantastic mansion with talking pianos, painting that follow your every movement, glass stained windows and much much more. There are a number of bars that are littered throughout the mansion that serve specialty cocktails and alcoholic beverages. Everything feels like something out of the 1920’s and adds the charm to the establishment.
The mansion was originally built as a private home back in 1901 and was later changed to become what it is today. Many people have claimed that the house is haunted and filled with both good and evil spirits which has added to the allure, especially being so close to the haunted Hollywood Hotel Tower a few streets away. For more information on the history of the Magical Castle you can visit the official website HERE.
This castle is an absolute must for any fans of films such as Harry Potter and The Craft. If you find yourself being one of the fortunate ones with an invitation to the mysterious club, be sure to take full advantage as you are one of the few people that will ever enter it’s private doors.
