Hiking and exercise are very important to me. I love to travel and discover new and interesting destinations no matter how far. Well these hiking locations are located right in my own backyard here in Los Angeles. Most people stick to the trails near their home or the popular trails such as the Hollywood sign and the Griffith Observatory. Here are 3 hiking trails that end with a waterfall. Remember, be sure to travel with a partner or two, bring bug spray and be safe as mountain lion sightings are common.
1.) Paradise Falls, Thousand Oaks
There are a number of different trails that lead straight in here. The scenery is gorgeous as it leads into Wildwood Park. Depedning what pathway you choose, there are markings and signs that direct you to the waterfall and a cavern of small caves as well. It’s about a 3 mile hike in and out which is sure to give you a small workout.
2.) Eaton Canyon Falls
This gem is one of the more popular hiking trails located in the San Gabriel Mountains due to its 40 foot nearly vertical waterfall. Your trail starts at the Eaton Canyon Natural Area Park and Nature Center. This hike isn’t as difficult as others as there is plenty of shade from the trees growing on the sides and not very steep or difficult pathways of loose terrain like other hiking spots which makes this area very busy with people.
3.) Sturtevant Falls
This trail is located in the heart of the Los Angeles forest and is filled with foliage cover to keep you out of the intense heat from the sun. The interesting features on this hike are the privately owned cabins that adorn the trail as you make way towards the waterfall. You’ll know when you’re getting close as there happens to be a small river that’ll cut through the pathway and lead you to the falls. This is a popular location to also find all kinds of wildlife as well.
The rivers, waterfalls and animal wildlife are not a guarantee to always be there so if you are planning on making a trip out, be sure to check weather reports. Droughts are very common here in southern California and will affect whether or not there is running water or shallow water. These are all very simple hikes, but very fun. This is Mini Jai saying be safe and have fun!
