Welcome to the world of Studio Ghibli!
I personally am a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki and all of his wonderful creations from My Neighbor Totoro to Princess Mononoke. If you aren’t familiar with his work, he is known as the Walt Disney of Japan and created Studio Ghibli which has an array of fantastic animated features for which he has won numerous awards for.
He has a new exhibit located at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles which showcases a lot of the art for the films as well as early art and insight into the mind of Miyazaki and how he came up with these fantastic films.
I had the privilege of going myself and I must say I was blown away by the beauty. Unfortunately there are no cameras of any kind allowed into the exhibit so you’ll have to take a mental photo, but some rooms have shown up online for the public to see.
You’ll have to purchase a ticket to enter and there are specific days to make a reservation as well as a gift shop with loads of great Studio Ghibli merchandise. The ticket allows you into the rest of the museum to see how some of your favorite flicks were made.
The Museum is located at 8949 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles Ca, 90211. It is in the museum district where other museums such as La Brea Tar Pits and LACMA are located so you can make a fun day jumping from Museum to Museum.
The Miayazaki exhibit will only be around until June 5, 2022 so see it as soon as you can.
