Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, and this city is a must see for all tourist across the world. It has the most beautiful architectures of Antoni Gaudi he designed and created. These are some of the most unforgettable sights you’ll see. Barcelona is also along the coast line, with plenty of beaches and night life. For foodie lovers, there are a variety of food choices in Barcelona to try and the city is known for having so many Michelin star restaurants.
Here is my travel experience in Barcelona. After my Mediterranean Cruise, I decided to stay a couple of days extra to explore the city of Barcelona on foot. With such short time, I want to share with everyone what I did and how I explored.
I stayed in the heart of Barcelona, the Le Meridien Hotel Barcelona in Las Ramblas. A few steps away from the bustling street of Las Ramblas; this area is a known tourist spot. This is where you’ll find different hotels, food vendors that sell a lot of different Paellas, Tapas (bite size dishes), shopping and more. I recommend to always speak to the concierge in your hotel, they can help you with sightseeing if you have nothing planned for the day. On our first day, we walked and explored, saw Gothic Churches, Placa de Catalunya, ate at the La Boqueria, entered the Picasso Museum, and saw the Iron Gate entrance to Antoni Gaudi’s Palau Guell.
It is an absolute must to book excursions ahead of time. Book front of the line passes to skip lines, transportation’s included and I encourage you to get a tour guide to share the history of the tour. Two days is not enough to see the city, I set my goal to see Gaudi’s creations as much as I can. And if you don’t know who he is, Antoni Gaudi was a Spanish architect and is well known as the face of Catalan architecture. He was fond of nature, and his work is often cited as being inspired by his love of natural design and modernism. His most famous work is the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
My second day in the city, we got a full day tour to visit The Sagrada Familia, a UNESCO world heritage site and Antoni Gaudi’s magnum opus. It is a giant Basillica (as of 2020, its still under construction) and one of Antoni Gaudi’s most iconic structure in Barcelona. Next stop, I got to visit some of Gaudi’s other work such as the La Pedrera (Casa Mila), Casa Batllo, and Park Guell. Later in the afternoon, our last stop was the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya; overlooking the beautiful city of Barcelona and Poble Espanyol.
Let’s not forget about the food. Eating in Barcelona is a full experience, and every meal I had; Sangria was included. Paella is one the main dish to try, it has an iconic rice taste and plenty of seafood choices. You can find this meal everywhere. Spanish Croquettas, they are long and oval in shape and are filled with meat and cheese. Barcelona is close to the shore and you can never go wrong on ordering fresh seafood of any kind. Lastly the Tapas, these are bite size dishes. There are plenty of Tapas Bar, and it can get overwhelming by ordering. A few of the choices are, Spanish Omelette, Patatas Bravas, Cured Ham, Cheese, Mussels, Pan Tumaca and many more.
Barcelona has it all, to the museums, beautiful architectures, beaches, gothic churches, michelin star restaurants, tapas bars, boqueria’s, wineries, nights life and the list goes-on. Barcelona is the most beautiful and interesting city in the world, I have not done it all but I will come back to seek more adventures.
