Disney Parks Chinese Lunar New Year

Disney and their many theme parks always tends to go all out especially for the holidays and one of their best is the Chinese Lunar New Year. I already covered the Chinese New Year celebration over at Universal Studios which you can read all about HERE. Today we’re talking about the Disney parks.

The Disney parks get decorated and dressed up in vibrant red and gold color to match that of the popular Asian holiday. One aspect that I always found quite fun was the meet and greets and this time of the year you can meet Disney’s Mulan and Musha from the popular animated film of the same name. This is especially nice since this is the only time in the entire year that you’ll be able to get a selfie with Mushu.

They aren’t the only special characters you’ll meet as Mickey and friends are usually dressed to impress in some authentic Chinese style garb. A tradition in China is also to write a wish usually of good fortune and attach it to a tree or a wall for it to come true. Disney allows kids and kids at heart to be able to create their own wishes and stick them to one of the decorated walls around.

Let’s talk about the food. Being of Asian descent I love coming here and trying Disney’s spin on some ethnic classics such as dumplings, noodles, and of course classic desserts such as Mickey shaped macaroons! Yummy! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

The Chinese Lunar New Year also comes out with exclusive merchandise as well pertaining to that specific year which is nice. For those of you that aren’t aware, the Lunar New Year is always based on one of the Zodiac animals such as the Rat, Ox, Snake or Dragon just to name a few. So the merchandise that comes out is very unique as it won’t be repeated for the following year.

The fire works show and parades are also specific to the new year and can be quite fun and entertaining. Be sure to show up early to grab yourself a good seat and view as the crowds can get quite big.

Have you ever been to any of the Disney Parks for the Chinese Lunar New Year? If so let me know, in the comments below!
