Academy Museum: Hayao Miyazaki

You read that title and you chose to come here which means you already know who Hayao Miyazaki is, which means you are a friend to me. Miyazaki is considered the Disney of Japan as he has created some of the most beautifully animated and visually stunning animated films for the past 35 years. His films are among my favorites not just in the animation department but in story telling and character development.

Miyazaki founded Studio Ghibli which brought us spectacular films such as My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Ponyo and Howl’s Moving Castle. His art is making it’s way to the Los Angeles Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on April 30th. The exhibit will feature and show case original art and illustrations, an assortment of behind the scenes look at some of his animated works like Kiki’s Delivery Service.

We’ll get a look into the mind and world of this animated genius as there will be early samples of ideas and note pad artwork. Most of his work consists of strong young female characters that isn’t romantically driven but more the duty to do what’s right. This will be the first North American exhibit to ever showcase his astonishing work.

The exhibit will be broken up into seven sections with over 300 pieces of art to show. This is a limited time run only so be sure to go check it out as soon as possible before it’s gone. Especially if you’re an anime, animation, art or Miyazaki fan. The museum is located at 6067 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, Ca.
