5 Scariest Places to Visit in California

California is a great place to do some ghost hunting and I’ve put together some of the most famously haunted places along the golden coast. Here are my picks for the 5 scariest places in California.

1. Alcatraz Prison

This prison housed some of the most condemned inmates of California’s history. It was eventually closed down to the cost in upkeep but before it’s doors were closed it was known as the most inescapable place for it’s residents. Only a few have ever escaped but their whereabouts if they survived remains a mystery. This prison is now home to the souls that were cursed there to wander and exact revenge. Located in San Francisco Alcatraz is a must for any paranormal fan.

2. Queen Mary

The Queen Mary is one of my favorite places to visit here in Long Beach California. Many mysteries are found deep inside it’s hull, especially the pool area where a victim allegedly drowned. During the night time of October Queen Mary hosts the Haunted Harbor with mazes and attraction but also serves as a regular hotel and restaurant. The ship has been permanent docked since World War 2 and is a fun experience for anyone seeking some ghost action.

3. The Cecil Hotel

This infamous hotel located in Downtown Los Angeles is home to many creepy and eerie stories from over the years. Some noteable one is the mysterious death of Elisa Lam who was found in the water tanks a top the building and also the serial killer known as Richard Ramirez who frequented the hotel after his late night killings. Many suicides and strange coincidences have led back to this Hotel. Be careful if you plan to visit as it is located in a very dangerous part of Los Angeles.

4. Winchester House

The Winchester Mystery House as it’s become known as is located in San Jose California and has a very odd story. Built by Sarah Winchester after her rich husbands death she was very paranoid and had multiple contractors work on the home not knowing what the previous team before had done making the home very different in every corridor and room. The house has doors and stars that lead nowhere as well as windows that look into other windows. Come here if you’d like to conjure up a spirit or two.

5. Greystone Manor

The Greystone Manor is a public park now located in Beverly Hills California where a murder suicide happened. The house was later sold and on the verge of being demolished before Los Angeles decided to consider it a national landmark. A number of strange sightings have occurred on the grounds and is known as one of the most haunted places in California.

Check these spots out while the haunting hour is among us but be sure to be safe and not to drive straight home after each visit as the spirits may follow you home.
