Welcome to the Lost Island theme park set in Waterloo, Iowa. When most people think theme parks, they usually think California or Orlando Florida, but here is a theme park that will be some competition from the middle states. If you haven’t heard of this place, well I’m telling you now to keep this on your radar. I’m here to tell you everything you need to know.
Lost Island first opened up as a water park back in 2001. It was ranked one of the best water parks in the country as well, but it wasn’t something you’d jump on a plane to go check out. Now the owners have broken ground on a 100 million dollar project to expand the park and transform it from a water park to a full fledged theme park and tourist destination.
Concept art and designs have been released along with a full map to the expanded area. New themed rides and roller coasters along with carnival style rides and shows will make their way into the park. The current water park has mini golf and go karts along with all the water slides and water rides.
The new area that was recently acquired is more than double the size of the current water park that is there now and will feature it’s own man made lake going through the park. The new park will be broken up into 5 lands based on different elements and mythical stories that will come together as stated by the official sources from Lost Island Theme Park. Nothing official yet on what those legends are so it could be anything from children’s books to the elements such as fire, air water and earth.
Based on the concept art, I believe it to be based on ancient civilizations from around the world such as El Dorado, Aztecs, Atlantis, Polynesian islands etc. These are just guesses at this point. Along with the new expansion to the current water park there will also be a downtown Disney/ City Walk style shopping and food area right outside the park with a variety of hotels.
This definitely looks like a place to keep an eye on as it looks to be an attraction that many tourist and people plan to travel to. Lost Island Theme Park is set to open in 2022 and probably won’t be completed until the end of the year, but I sure do have a reason to visit Iowa now.
